Free website audit — review, SEO check & speed snapshot

Send me your URL and I’ll reply with a straight, human-written look at what’s working, what’s hurting conversions, and where SEO or performance are leaving money on the table. Built for businesses in Grimsby, Cleethorpes, Immingham and the wider North East Lincolnshire area — or anywhere if the fit is right.

What you get

Three things in one pass — without the glossy PDF theatre

This isn’t an automated “100-point score” that spams your inbox and then sells you a retainer. I look at your site the way a potential customer does: on a phone, in a hurry, maybe comparing you to two competitors who also serve Grimsby or Cleethorpes. Then I translate that into three practical lenses — website review (clarity, trust, structure), SEO check (how well your pages match intent and how clean your foundations are), and speed analysis (what actually blocks a fast first impression on mobile).

Website review. I note whether your homepage says what you do in plain language, whether services are easy to find, whether contact routes are obvious, and whether the design supports trust or undermines it (wall-of-text hero, buried phone numbers, stock imagery that could be anyone). If you’re a trade, a shop, or a professional firm, those details matter differently — I’ll call out what applies to you.

SEO check. I look at titles and meta descriptions, heading order, duplicate or thin pages, internal linking between related services, and whether your URLs reflect real page intent. I’ll flag obvious cannibalisation (two pages fighting for the same topic) and quick fixes that don’t require a full rebuild. I won’t promise rankings; I will show where the site is making search harder than it needs to be. For deeper methodology, see SEO in Grimsby and the SEO & content architecture write-up.

Speed analysis. I interpret real-world performance signals — not chasing a green lighthouse trophy at the cost of design, but calling out heavy images, blocking scripts, layout shifts that annoy taps, and anything that reads “this site hasn’t been cared for” before someone reads a word. If your host or stack is the bottleneck, I’ll say that plainly too.

Related pages: fix a slow website (why speed loses customers) and get more customers online (why sites fail to convert — business-focused, not a tech manual).

Delivery

What comes back to you

You get a written reply by email — structured, specific, and written by me. I’ll reference actual URLs and sections where it helps, so you can act on it with your current team or come back to me for implementation. If your site is tiny, the audit might be shorter; if it’s a sprawling multi-service build, I’ll prioritise what moves the needle first.

Turnaround depends on workload, but I aim for a few working days for most small-business sites. If I’m flooded with coursework deadlines or client launches, I’ll still tell you when to expect a response — I’d rather be honest than promise same-day automation I can’t stand behind.

Fit

Who this is for — and who it isn’t

Best fit: you have a live site (even if you’re embarrassed by it), you care whether it converts, and you’re open to feedback that might include “this needs a proper rebuild” or “fix these five things first.” I work with local businesses across NEL and beyond; the audit is equally useful if you’re national but your UX is weak.

Poor fit: you want a guaranteed ranking report, you need enterprise crawl data across ten thousand SKUs, or you’re shopping for free labour disguised as “just tell me exactly what to change in WordPress without paying anyone.” I’m happy to point you at tools and specialists when the scope outgrows a solo developer.

What to send

What I need from you

Your domain, a sentence on what the business does, and (optionally) what you think is wrong — “phones never ring”, “we rank behind X”, “the site looks fine on desktop but awful on phones”. If you operate in specific towns — Immingham, villages along the coast, etc. — say so; local relevance matters for how I read your service pages.

If the site is behind a login, staging-only, or geo-blocked, I can’t audit what I can’t see — send a public URL or temporary access details if that’s unavoidable.

Why offer it

Why I give this away

Honest answer: it’s a useful filter. You see how I think before you spend anything. I see whether we’re a fit and whether the next step is a small fix, a structured rebuild in Nuxt, or something else entirely. If the audit surfaces a project, great — if not, you still leave with actionable notes.

No obligation to hire me. No credit card. No funnel that adds you to seventeen mailing lists. If you want ongoing help after, we scope it like any other engagement — see freelance web design in Grimsby for how I work end-to-end.

Sectors

Industry-specific builds

If you already know your sector needs a different emphasis — trades needing callout clarity, law firms needing sober trust, restaurants needing menus and hours front and centre — read the dedicated pages below. Each is written from scratch for that audience; they’re not duplicate templates with swapped keywords.

Audit FAQs

Is the audit really free?
Yes — no payment details, no trial that rolls into a subscription. I send written feedback by email. If you later want a quote for fixes or a rebuild, that’s a separate conversation.
Do you need access to Search Console or analytics?
Not for the first pass. Public pages are enough for structure, messaging, and obvious technical issues. If we go deeper later, we can discuss read-only access.
Will you audit sites built on WordPress, Wix, or custom code?
Yes. The platform changes implementation detail, not the questions: does the page match intent, can users act quickly, and is performance acceptable on mobile?
How is this different from automated SEO tools?
Tools list issues; I interpret them in context — your sector, your geography, and whether a “fix” is worth the cost. You get judgement, not just a score.
What if I don’t have a website yet?
The audit is for live URLs. If you’re pre-launch, contact me with a brief instead — we can talk scope for a new build on the main Grimsby web design page.
